NorthStar Soccer Registration
NorthStar Soccer is a Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA) city league soccer program.
- Indoor soccer registration is for ages five (U6) to eighteen years old (U18).
- Outdoor soccer registration is for ages six (U8) to eighteen years old (U18). For outdoor (spring/summer) soccer, the younger age groups usually play community soccer (Dalhousie House League or Varsity Tykes). For outdoor 2010, U8 city league soccer is available with an optional U8 and U10 summer program.
There are no boundaries in soccer so our program is available for registration from all communities. However, as NorthStar Soccer is a Dalhousie and Varsity community-run program, all families registering are required to obtain a membership from either community.
The actual placement of teams in each age group is dependent on sufficient registrations and volunteer team officials. NorthStar cannot and will not guarantee that teams will be entered with CMSA for every age/gender group and/or at every level of play.
Check our Home Page to see if a designated registration period is open.
On-Line Pre-Registration
On-Line Pre-Registration is available during a designated registration period and encouraged for all players. This process provides a CONFIRMATION form which can be printed (both directly from the web page and as a confirmation email). You can pay online or with cheques.
- A CMSA waiver must be completed and submitted. The waiver covers a yearly period for indoor and outdoor soccer and is available on our website or CMSA's website. When you register online, the waiver will be sent as an attachment. If the registrant played indoor with NorthStar, then they DO NOT need to submit a waiver for the outdoor season.
- A Dalhousie or Varsity Community Association membership
- Proof of age if the player has not played Calgary Minor Soccer city league soccer before. This must be government-issued documentation like an Alberta Health Care card, birth certificate or passport.
Registrations received after the stated late date are subject to a $40 late fee and will be placed on a wait list. This includes pre-registrations not submitted on time. Players will accepted into the program if space is available in their age group.
In-Person Registration
A designated in-person registration date is available at Dalhousie and/or Varsity Community Centre every season. On-line pre-registrations can be dropped off before or at this time. Forms are available for completion at in-person registration for registrations that were not completed on-line.

- Uniform - one per registrant
- Volunteer - one per family. The $100 can be paid with the registration fee if the family declines to volunteer for the season.
NorthStar Soccer fees do not include the following expenses which may be applicable or desired by the teams or parents:
- a practice ball, shin guards, and footwear
- tournament and travel expenses
- team social events
- additional practice facility fees
- additional training sessions
- additional fees that apply for Tier II, III and IV teams
Late Registration Fees
All late registrations after a specific published date for each season are subject to an additional $40 fee and will be placed on a wait list. Players will be accepted into the program if space is available in their age group.
Refund Policy
No refunds will be given after a specific published date for each season except for medical reasons accompanied by a doctor's note. Cancellations/withdrawals before this date will be charged a $100 administration fee.
Tier II, III and IV Teams
Given sufficient registrations/requests and volunteer team officials, NorthStar may enter teams at these higher levels. Registrants must note this preference in the "Special Requests" field at registration. Players must be prepared for a higher commitment level and longer playing season as well as possible additional training and practice fees. Age coordinators will invite participants for tryouts at this level. Players who do not make these teams will participate in NorthStar's competitive evaluations and/or be placed on the next level Tier V/VI competitive team.
Proof of Age - All New City League Players
Each player participating in the City League must provide a Proof of Age document the first season they participate. Please submit a copy of any government issued document which has the player's birth date such as:
- Birth Certificate
- Alberta Health Care Card
- Passport
The community centers can copy the document at registration.
CMSA Photo ID Cards ($10 Fee)
All team officials at every level are required to have CMSA Photo ID cards. All players U12 and older are also required to have a card. CMSA sets up appointments every season to acquire cards for a $10 fee. You must have a CMSA ID number to book an appointment. Click here to get your number with NorthStar. All current cards have an expiry date. If you already have a card but it needs to be replaced, the $10 fee is waived but you must bring the old card to the appointment. We suggest that you bring $10 cash.
Uniform Deposit - All Players
A post-dated $100 uniform deposit is required for each player. This deposit will only be charged/cashed if the uniform is not returned at the end of the season in good condition.
CMSA Waiver Form - All Players
Calgary Minor Soccer Association Waiver Forms cover the indoor and outdoor seasons for each year. Players are REQUIRED to have a current waiver form prior to participating in league play. Registrants who played for NorthStar in the indoor season are NOT required to complete a form for the outdoor season.
As of Indoor 2010/11, Calgary Minor Soccer has developed an electronic waiver system. When NorthStar uploads the current registrations into CMSA's system, an email will be sent to all parents with instructions on how to complete the waiver.
Dalhousie or Varsity Community Association Membership
NorthStar Soccer is a sports program operating under Dalhousie ("DCA") and Varsity ("VCA") Community Associations. A current membership is mandatory to play with NorthStar Soccer and can be purchased online or at the community centers. The yearly membership runs from September through August of the following year and provides insurance for our registrants to play.
For more information about DCA and other programs, please contact the DCA office.
For more information about VCA and other programs, please contact the VCA office.
Volunteers and Volunteer Deposits - (per Family)
NorthStar Soccer is run entirely by volunteers. Your participation ensures that our program runs smoothly for everyone. There are two main areas requiring volunteers: those working directly with the players and teams (coaches, team managers and team level volunteers) and volunteering for the Soccer Committee to administrate our program. The volunteer positions that are available for each season are posted with registration.
A post-dated volunteer deposit of $100 is required for each family. If the family declines to volunteer, the $100 fee should be included with the registration fees. Volunteer deposits will only be charged/cashed if you do not fulfill your volunteer obligations.
Please note that when helping out with your child's team, only coaches and managers are considered NorthStar volunteer positions. All parents are expected to assist the team manager with tasks such as refreshments, car pooling, bench mom/dad, etc. Parents who do not have the opportunity to volunteer once the season commences (e.g. at registration, evaluations, equipment/uniform distribution) must confer with the team manager who will assign volunteer duties during the season. If you cannot meet your volunteer commitment, is it your responsibility to find a replacement for the times you are needed.
Please review the Volunteers web page prior to Registration.
All Team Officials (Coaches and Managers)
Coaching is one the most and important and rewarding volunteer positions in our program. You do not need to be an expert soccer player to coach as there are guides, clinics, and certification programs for all levels. Give it a try, have some fun and help make this a great program for everyone. The selection of coaches is generally determined by the Age Group Coordinator before evaluations.
Team managers are crucial volunteer positions that organize and handle administrative responsibilities for the coaches. This ensures that the coaches have more time to spend exclusively coaching the kids.
NorthStar also welcomes all non-parent volunteers. Please contact us by email if you are interested email.
It is a mandatory CMSA requirement that all team officials (head coaches, assistant coaches and team managers) complete a Police Information Check ("PIC"). Team officials will NOT be placed on official team rosters without it. PICs completed through NorthStar/CMSA are valid for three years. Please note that PICs that are done through other volunteer organizations do not satisfy this requirement. . NorthStar offers the opportunity to complete PICs at the team officials meeting scheduled before the beginning of every season. Parents who anticipate at some point that they will volunteer as a team official are invited to complete a PIC at this time as well. Please email PIC@NorthStarSoccer.ca for more information.
Soccer Committee
NorthStar's Soccer Committee welcomes all volunteers, and every season there are a number of vacant positions to be filled. A technical knowledge of soccer is not required. If you are interested in being involved in any of the positions available on our contacts web page, or want to assist in some other way, please send us an email.
