Indoor Program

Updated: March 7, 2011

The goal of NorthStar Soccer is to provide an opportunity for Players and Coaches, to participate in and enjoy community soccer. NorthStar Soccer is a community based soccer program providing an opportunity for the youth of our community to play soccer. This sports program is offered by the Dalhousie Community Association and Varsity Community Association. We offer an Indoor City League Soccer Program for U6 to U18 age groups inclusive.

For registration information please see our registration web page and our calendar page for important dates, including registration dates.

Age groups change with the onset of the indoor season. If your player was a first year player this outdoor season, they will be a second year play in the same age group. If they were a second year player in the outdoor season they will be a first year player in the older age group for the upcoming indoor season. The age group shift which formerly took place prior to the outdoor season now takes place prior to the indoor season. Therefore players will remain in the same age group from Indoor to Outdoor the following year.

Players participate in the soccer program according to their age. When it is time to register, an age group chart will be on the registration page. All players must be registered in their proper age group. Requests for players to participate in an alternate age group (play up) should be noted at registration. All alternate placements are at the discretion of the Age Group Coordinators. CMSA does not allow players to play in lower age groups.

We also offer an Outdoor Program for U10 to U18 age groups. As well, both Varsity Soccer and Dalhousie Soccer offer an outdoor house league (tykes) program for U4 to U10.

Indoor Game Facilities

The Calgary West Soccer Centre was opened during the 2004/2005 indoor season. Many of the NorthStar games were played at this facility. All of the U8 games were scheduled at the West Soccer Centre after it was opened. We anticipate the schedules will be similar for upcoming seasons.

Indoor Practice Facilities

Our program is limited by the amount of indoor practice facilities we are able to utilize, as well as the times and days it is available to us. We rent facilities on a variety of weekday evenings as well as Saturday mornings. We have attempted in the past to have a set practice time for the younger ages while the older ages rotate through the various practice facilities according to their game schedules. We are not able to confirm when any one team or age group will be practicing prior to the commencement of the season.

Indoor House League

NorthStar Soccer does not offer a House League or Recreational League for any age group at this time. If members of Dalhousie and/or Varsity Communities would like to start an Indoor House League we would be please to provide support and cooperation.

Indoor City League

The NorthStar Soccer Indoor City League Program is for U6, U8,U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 age groups (i.e. U10 or Under Ten means less than ten years of age as of December 31st of the previous year). This program has mixed teams for U6 and U8 only, girl and boy teams for U8 to U18. Teams compete in various leagues within Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA). The Indoor City League Soccer program commences in October and runs to the beginning of March depending on the Age Group. Evaluations and player placement occur in the latter half of September. Games are scheduled by CMSA and NorthStar Soccer has no control over the time, days or location selected.

City League U6 Soccer

The U6 Indoor program is a developmental and NOT a competitive program. Therefore, no game scores or standings will be maintained. The idea of the program is to afford the players the opportunity to actively participate, learn and have FUN. All coaches, managers, and parents are asked to conduct themselves in a manner that supports the spirit and purpose of this program.
The game played is 3v3 micro-soccer; three players including the sweeper-goalkeeper.

Mixed teams will compete in the Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA) league against other Organization/Club teams. Players are placed on teams with the intent of each of our U6 teams to have comparable skill and ability, similar to the outdoor house league (tykes). In past seasons, games have been played only on Saturdays and Sundays at the Calgary West Soccer Centre's fields.

We have not allocated separate practice times for the U6 teams. Scheduled Games are preceded by a short practice. This is consistent with most U6 teams participating in the CMSA.

City League U8 Soccer

The U8 Indoor program is a developmental and NOT a competitive program. Therefore, no game scores or standings will be maintained. The idea of the program is to afford the players the opportunity to actively participate, learn and have FUN. All coaches, managers, and parents are asked to conduct themselves in a manner that supports the spirit and purpose of this program.

The game played is 4v4 soccer; four players including the sweeper-goalkeeper.

Mixed, Boys and Girls teams will compete in the Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA) league against other Organization/Club teams. Players are placed on teams with the intent of each of our U8 teams, in a gender group, to have comparable skill and ability, similar to the outdoor house league (tykes). In past seasons, games have been played weekday evenings as well as Saturdays and Sundays at the East Side Training Facility and the Calgary West Soccer Centre fields.

Note to parents: our ability to enter teams in Mixed, Boys or Girls U8 leagues is strictly dependant on the number of registrants. Please indicate your preference for your player at registration. Please also indicate your second preference gender group (boys can not play on a girls team).
